Home Stretch Reform successful in Victoria!
A couple of years ago, I had the pleasure of working on The Home Stretch campaign alongside young people with a lived experience of care, calling on the government to extend the age of out-of-home care from 18 to 21.
There was an initial trial announced in 2018, as well as efforts to legislate the reform earlier this year, but today is a landmark day as the 2020-21 Budget includes funding to offer extended care arrangements to every young person in Victoria on an ongoing basis.
The game-changing $64.7 million commitment will give young people in care the best chance of a successful transition to independent living. Well done to everyone who's supported the Home Stretch campaign to achieve this moment!
